Sergio’s journey at California Greenhouses started years ago as a driver. Through his dedication and hard work, he gradually advanced to become the manager of our Irvine location. What inspired you to join the CGH Succulents team?
“I am always looking for challenges and taking on new jobs. I wanted to try out the plant industry to conquer something new and different,” says Sergio. His enthusiasm for exploring new opportunities led him to California Greenhouses, where he’s now an integral part of the team.
How has your role evolved since you started working here?
Starting as a driver, Sergio quickly began to pick up various tasks across the business, working his way up through the ranks. “I worked my way up throughout the years, learning different tasks and eventually securing my role as Irvine’s manager,” he shares. His journey is a true reflection of hard work and dedication.
What’s one of your favorite memories from your time at California Greenhouses?
When asked about his favorite memories, Sergio fondly recalls his time spent on the road delivering plants. “My favorite memories are when I was out on the road exploring on my delivery routes. It was peaceful, and I was great at it! Seeing the plant world one shop at a time,” he says. His appreciation for plants and customer connections has always been at the heart of his work.
Do you have a favorite plant? If so, why is it your favorite?
Sergio’s favorite plant right now is the Monstera Split Leaf. “I love seeing the fenestrations form on their leaves,” he explains. The Monstera’s unique beauty and growth process never fail to captivate him, making it his plant of choice for his personal collection.
Have you worked on any personal plant projects inspired by CGH?
Inspired by his work at California Greenhouses, Sergio took his passion for plants home. “Yes, actually! I was inspired to build my own greenhouse in my backyard and have enjoyed collecting plants along the way,” he shares. His personal project has allowed him to immerse himself even deeper in the world of plants.
If you could describe CGH in three words, what would they be?
“Positive, Hardworking, and Hungry!” Sergio’s words perfectly encapsulate the spirit of California Greenhouses. The team’s positive attitude, strong work ethic, and drive for success have been key to our growth and success in the industry.
What’s your favorite thing about working with plants every day?
Sergio loves seeing new plant varieties come in. “This week I picked up the brightest Pink Princess to add to my little greenhouse. You’re going to want to snag one for yourself!” His excitement for the new plant arrivals is contagious, and he’s always thrilled to share the latest and greatest finds with his customers and the team.
