Agave Attenuata ‘Ray of Light’

Agave Attenuata 'Ray of Light'

Variegation in plants is the appearance of different colors in the leaves. Typically these colors are white, or yellow, where the zones contrast the more common green foliage. The white, or yellow, variegation is from a lack of chlorophyl in the tissue of the plant. Often the variegation in plants is highly unstable and variable with some plants reverting back to the their original all green state. The Agave Attenuata ‘Ray of Light’ is one of the few variegated attenuata, but definitely one of the more consistent and more showy. ‘Ray of Light’ contains an even white edge running the length of each leaf margin. These are exquisite agave and thrive in slightly more shade, keeping the green inset of each leaf as dark as possible, truly accenting the contrast. Keep in a container as an accent, or watch it grow just as large as the non variegated cultivar if planted in the garden.
